Have you heard about the National Intelligence Law (NIL) of China? NIL applies to all Chinese citizens globally and to all Chinese Companies and Chinese owned subsidiaries, even those outside China.
Click here to dowload China’s National Intelligence Law (NIL pdf)

In our industry Asian aftermarket chips and chip resetting/re-programming device suppliers (APEX, Geehy, Static, Zhono, ChipJet, Megain, etc.) are companies that are subject to China’s National Intelligence Law (NIL). Because of this all-Chinese Aftermarket Chip suppliers, or Chinese owned businesses in the U.S. like Lexmark and SCC for example, are also subject to this law.

    Why OEM firmware is needed.
HP and the other OEM must have felt like they HAD to do these Firmware Updates to block these Chinese Chips to avoid any possible act of espionage on their office devices and to protect their customers. Unfortunately, by doing so, HP and other OEMs have opened the gateways for the toner cartridge chip to collect data over the internet themselves. On January 4, 2023 it was also reported that HP uses “Session Replay” technology on their website to spy on their customers.

We all know that OEM Firmware updates are the biggest showstopper for our industry. And now we know that the Chinese chip manufactures are the main reason for this. You obviously cannot trust the Chinese in our industry and now you probably can’t trust HP either, who can we trust?
