Southampton Town residents now have an easy way to dispose of their old printer, fax and copier toner cartridges as part of Councilwoman Christine Scalera’s “A Greener Southampton” initiative.
The Toshiba Company recently partnered with Close the Loop, Inc, a zero-waste to landfill recycling program, to allow for 100% recycling of collected consumable supplies such as cartridges, drum units and toner bottles.
“In an effort to encourage the recycling of these products, I wanted to provide residents and businesses with an easy and efficient way to dispose of their old toner cartridges year round,” Scalera said.
The Town normally allows these products to be disposed of at the household hazardous waste collection days at the Towns transfer stations, but those collection days are only held four times a year.
The Close the Loop collection program is providing the Town with recyclable collection boxes and supplies, transportation and recycling services for toner bottles, laser cartridges, drum units, toner bags and other bulk imaging items.
Starting in May, the Town will provide toner recycling boxes at several locations where items can be dropped off.
These locations include:
The Hampton Bays Senior Center at 25 Ponquogue Avenue in Hampton Bays
The North Sea Transfer Station on 1370 Majors Path in North Sea
Southampton Town Hall on 116 Hampton Road in Southampton Village
