A newly revealed FBI report has uncovered an expansive cyber-espionage operation by Chinese hackers, dubbed “Salt Typhoon,” that has targeted more than 80 countries worldwide. The sophisticated campaign, which impacted nearly 600 companies, spanned various industries and went beyond traditional espionage techniques, according to FBI officials. Notably, it specifically targeted U.S. telecom providers, embedding a malware known as “JumbledPath.” The operation demonstrates China’s growing capabilities in cyber-warfare and raises concerns about the security of global communications networks. The breach further highlights the increasing geopolitical risks in cyberspace, where espionage campaigns have become a key tool for state actors.
