IT’S A TONER GAME: Japan FTC Probes Canon Canon Inc. said Friday the Fair Trade Commission carried out an investigation at its Tokyo headquarters Thursday, though the company declined to comment on the details of the probe. “It’s true we’ve been investigated (by the FTC), but we don’t know any details” about the probe, a Canon spokesman said without commenting further.
The Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported Friday That the FTC conducted the investigation amid allegations the company unfairly obstructs sales of printer toner cartridges produced by other manufacturers for use in Canon products.
The FTC suspects Canon may be trying to shut out other vendors through such means as changing cartridge specifications for new color laser printers for office use, the newspaper said, citing sources close to the matter
