Lexmark is once again drawing attention to the security risks associated with older networked printers after reports resurfaced about CVE-2010-0101, a high-severity improper input validation vulnerability affecting several legacy Lexmark printer models and MarkNet print servers. The flaw allowed remote attackers to send specially crafted HTTP authorization requests that could crash printer systems and cause denial-of-service disruptions without requiring authentication. Although originally disclosed in 2010, the vulnerability highlights the ongoing cybersecurity concerns surrounding outdated office equipment that remains connected to corporate networks. Security experts continue to recommend firmware updates, restricted web interface access, and stronger network segmentation to protect businesses still operating legacy print infrastructure.
