A former manager at a Toshiba subsidiary has been sentenced to four years in prison after carrying out a long-running fraud scheme that cost the company about ¥115 million (roughly $790,000). According to prosecutors, 47-year-old Yusuke Tanaka, a former sales manager at Toshiba Tec’s Kansai branch, created fake customer orders between 2023 and 2024, fraudulently purchasing 380 computers through 132 fabricated transactions. He then resold the devices and pocketed the proceeds. During the trial, Tanaka admitted the charges, and prosecutors said he committed the fraud to finance gambling on horse racing and pay off debts. The court criticized the scheme as deliberate and highly malicious, noting that he involved subordinates to help conceal the fraud and continued the activity over an extended period, resulting in substantial losses for the company.
