Microsoft is giving one of Windows’ oldest printer administration tools a major makeover, moving its new WinUI 3-based Print Management application into the Windows 11 Release Preview channel and bringing the decades-old utility closer to mainstream PCs. The redesigned tool is intended to modernize how IT administrators manage printers, print queues, drivers, ports, print servers and network printing, while retaining many of the functions that have made the traditional Print Management console important to business and managed-print environments. The move is particularly notable for the printer industry because Microsoft is not simply pushing printing deeper into the background—it is actively rebuilding the administrative experience around Windows printing. The new interface is expected to move toward regular Windows 11 users following Release Preview testing, although Microsoft has not guaranteed a specific final release date. For printer dealers, service technicians, managed print providers and OEMs including HP, Canon, Ricoh, Xerox, Brother, Epson, Kyocera and Konica Minolta, the Windows 11 Print Management overhaul could make printer and driver administration significantly more modern and user-friendly.
