The insurer, which reportedly paid approximately $1.13 million in fire-related damages, claims the printer suffered an internal electrical failure that ignited the blaze. Canon argued that the insurer could not identify the exact manufacturing defect responsible, but the court ruled that expert evidence linking the fire to the printer was sufficient for the case to move forward. Canon has not been found liable, and a jury could ultimately decide whether the printer was defective and responsible for the costly house fire.
