The inspection teams clamped down on a group of foreign workers who used an old house in the capital's Murabba district to repack poor quality ink cartridges and market them to consumers as authentic and genuine products carrying trademarks of such brands as HP and Canon, Sabq.com online paper said.

Those involved in the case have been detained for further investigation, the paper said.
The authorities during the raids seized more than 5,000 packs of fake ink cartridges. Over 4,000 empty ink cartridges were about to be refilled, the paper said, adding that nearly 8,000 labels carrying HP trade marks were also confiscated.

In a similar campaign, the ministry’s field inspectors cracked down on a villa in Officers’ district and another two popular houses in Atiqa district which were used to store and reload fake printer inks.

More than 25,000 packs, carrying HP and Canon brands, were seized, the paper said.

Earlier, the ministry’s team has launched inspection campaigns targeting popular houses in Shimaisi and two apartments in Malaz districts where they seized more than 15,000 fake ink packs. Those involved were detained and are being investigation, the paper said.

A statement from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said the ministry has always maintained that it would not tolerate the violators and those involved in the practices of fraud that put the health and safety of consumers at risk.
