Avery Dennison to Close 2 U.S. Facilites, Laying Off 250 Employees
    by  Andy Braithwaite

Two Avery supply chain facilities in Massachusetts will close next year, parent company CCL Industries has announced.

CCL said that two sites – in Chicopee and Holliston – will permanently close as the group streamlines Avery's distribution infrastructure. The closures will begin next February and are expected to be completed by the end of 2014.

"It is with great regret that we have to announce this news but it is very clear that our Avery business had been operating with significant excess capacity and infrastructure for some time prior to the change in ownership," said CCL CEO Geoff Martin.

"Operations will eventually be consolidated into existing Avery supply chain facilities located in the United States, Canada and Mexico. 250 people will be affected by the change and a charge of approximately $6 million will be booked in our fourth quarter financial statements as part of the overall restructuring plan that we have already announced."
