    • Fuji
      Graphic Systems Canad
      a
      has restructured its organization, eliminating 24 positions, primarily
      among upper management and administration. The new leaner, customer-focused,
      organization is designed to be more responsive to the market.
    • MAN Roland
      Canada
      has become the sole distributor of the Japan-based RYOBI
      presses throughout the country. The agreement includes installation, parts
      supply and technical support.
    • Koenig
      & Bauer AG (KBA)
      has agreed to purchase Czech press manufacturer
      Grafitec, maker of the Polly Prestige and Polly Performer presses, 29-
      and 26-inch sheetfed machines.
    • MAN
      Roland
      is consolidating its German sheetfed press manufacturing operations,
      integrating tasks from its smaller Geisenheim facility into its primary
      Offenbach location. A yet-to-be-determined portion of Geisenheim’s labor force
      of 314 will be transferred. Its Mainhausen factory is also undergoing labor
      negotiations aimed at reducing production costs and improving
      productivity.
    • Heidelbergs first nine months of fiscal 2004/2005
      (April-December) reported net sales of Euro 2.23 billion up from the previous
      year of Euro 2.07 billion, press sales are up around 10%. “The growth in the
      global economy also increased capacity utilization in printshops”, said Bernhard
      Schreier, Heidelberg CEO.
      “To strengthen the competitiveness … we plan to
      further reduce manufacturing costs, with particular emphasis on personnel
      costs,” said Heidelberg’s CFO, Dr. Herbert Meyer. As of December 31, 2004, the
      Heidelberg Group had a workforce of some 18,800 worldwide (previous year was
      23,400-taking into account the digital and web systems divisions).
    • Agfa‘s
      Graphic Systems reported a year-end revenue increase of 3.1 percent compared to
      2003, positively affected by the 2004 acquisitions of Lastra, Dotrix, and
      ProImage.
    • Creo
      has taken further steps towards being acquired by Eastman Kodak Company.
      The company has obtained an Interim Order allowing it to hold its annual and
      special meeting of shareholders Tuesday, March 29 where it will have the
      authority to pass the transaction.
    • Cascades
      Resources
      has been appointed the exclusive Canadian distributor for
      Scitex Vision Americas line of digital printing equipment and
      consumables for industrial applications including wide format graphic arts and
      packaging.
    • Effective
      March 1, Heidelberg Canada became the exclusive distributor of Sun
      Chemical
      sheetfed ink and coating products for British Colombia, expanding
      upon an existing distributorship agreement announced in July
      2003.
    • Xerox
      Corp
      . officially opened the Gil Hatch Center for Customer Innovation, a
      multimillion-dollar, 100,000-square-foot facility in Webster, N.Y (next to
      Rochester) a showcase for current and prospective customers to view the
      company’s entire portfolio of production printing equipment and solutions.
      At
      the opening Xerox announced a faster iGen3 capable of 110 colour ppm and new
      Nuvera black-and-white printers with MICR
      capabilities.
    • Fuji is
      celebrating the opening of a $100 million digital computer-to-plate (CTP) plate
      manufacturing facility at its North American manufacturing and research complex
      in Greenwood, South Carolina.
    • Heidelberg
      is launching commercial production in April of the Speedmaster XL 105
      sheetfed press (18,000 shp, 29.53 x 41.34-inch), first unveiled at drupa
      2004.
    • Esko-Graphics reportly exceeded its business targets for 2004, as
      packaging sales increased by more than 6 percent year-over-year, with growth
      worldwide.
    • ABDick‘s 15-city open house tour across North America, with stops
      in Canada scheduled for mid-July through late August, will feature the
      Presstek-enabled and KPG branded DirectPress 5334 DI. 
    • MAN
      Roland
      has partnered with the Maxson Automatic Machinery Co. to
      become the exclusive worldwide distributor of Maxson’s in-line sheeters for wide
      format sheetfed presses.
    • Xerox
      Canada
      has announced the Xerox 4110 Digital Copier/Printer, a 110
      page-per-minute black-and-white system, designed for small-to-medium-sized print
      shops, It prints at 2400 dpi using Xerox EA (emulsion aggregation) toner, and it
      handles paper formats up to 13 x 19.2 inches and 140 pound index. Pricing starts
      at $75,500 for the copier.
    • Canon
      Canada
      has merged its direct sales divisions nationwide under the name
      Business Solutions Division, providing customers with a choice of working
      directly with Canon sales and service or through its dealer
      network.
    • MeadWestvaco Corp. has purchased the All Purpose Litho (APL)
      product line from SMART Papers, adding to its coated one side (C1S)
      offering
    • International Paper has agreed to sell its Industrial Papers
      Business, including lightweight packaging and pressure sensitive papers, to
      Kohlberg and Company, LLC for approximately US$180
      million
    • Prisco
      has become a distributor of SpeedyDry Ink Dryer Additive, a product proven
      to dry offset and duplicator inks up to 75 percent faster, increasing turnaround
      time of print jobs.
    • Exanet
      is integrating its ExaStore data storage and access system with the
      Xinet family of workflow solutions.
    • EFI has
      released MicroPress ProSeries 7.0 software for multi-printer (cluster) digital
      environments providing higher speed, added document composition, colour
      management, and printer and job management capabilities of up to 12 black and
      white and/or color engines

    • Esko-Graphics released BackStage 2.0, an upgrade for Scope, its

    • Harris
      & Bruno International
      has acquired ESS, Electro Spray Systems, Inc.,
      developer of powder sprayer systems, infrared dryers, and ink agitators. Harris
      & Bruno is a supplier of printing and coating solutions for the offset and
      flexographic communities.
    • Prepress
      Training Solution
      , a division of StaffingTools, Inc., in now offering
      an interactive online training course for users of Markzware’s FlightCheck
      5.5
    • PicoJet,
      Inc
      .
      has successfully demonstrated its new stainless steel PJ-N256
      drop-on-demand inkjet printhead. The all-metal ink channel allows for a range of
      ink chemistries including UV-curable, oil, water, solvent, hot melt (wax),
      conductive inks and other difficult to jet fluids. Apparently the printhead is
      not susceptible to nozzle clogging. PicoJet’s proprietary manufacturing process
      is designed for automated assembly providing cost-effective manufacturing and
      low unit pricing.

      development we can overcome the barriers that have kept inkjet printing from
      migrating into broad industrial printing applications,” says Hue Le, President
