Canon Breaks Ground on New Canadian Headquarters

BRAMPTON— Canon Canada Inc., one of the world’s leading camera brands, broke ground on a new state-of-the-art corporate headquarters in Brampton on Tuesday.

“Our vision for Canon Canada’s headquarters goes beyond being an infrastructure investment or a building where our employees work,” said Ted Egawa, Canon Canada president and CEO. “We want our new headquarters to become a community for our employees and for our customers.”

Located at the corner of Mississauga Road and Steeles Avenue West, the new headquarters will replace the company’s current office in on Dixie Road in Mississauga.

Canon expects to complete construction on the five-storey building by December 2015. The opening is slated for spring 2016.

Japan’s ambassador to Canada, Norihiro Okuda, as well as Eiji Yamamoto, Consul-General of Japan, joined canon Canada executives for the groundbreaking. Brampton Mayor Susan Fennell and City Councillor John Hutton were also on hand.

The new headquarters will measure roughly 190,000 square feet on five levels and will be built on 18-acres of land.

The site is surrounded by green space, and includes a walking trail, drought-resistant landscaping and a naturalized storm water management pond. Egawa said the natural space aligns with the company’s Kyosei philosophy, which means “harmoniously living and working together for the common good.”

“By combining Kyosei with high-quality, simplicity and functionality, the brand-defining characteristics which have made Canon products successful, we have created a space that will inspire collaboration and innovation,” Egawa said. 

The facility will also boast a full-service cafeteria, fitness centre, bike racks, terraces and 500 parking spaces, both outdoor and underground.
