He said "10 percent of the 100 million population in the Philippines is actually first world, therefore they can afford the most sophisticated technology. "

Lim, who has been with Canon for more than twenty years said that even with the threat of smartphone and the trend to go paperless, the company remains very optimistic that it can fulfill its role of continuing to provide products that delight customers.

"Smartphones actually helped promote photography, thus helping boost the popularity of Canon cameras – from entry-level to our DSLR cameras. As you get more into photography the more you want a better camera — something that Canon excels in, " Lim said.

"As for printers, the wide variety of information the Internet provides that has heightened the need for hard document copies. Likewise, Canon now offers photo printers and papers that can make prints last up to three hundred years – making memories more lasting," he added.

The company's target is to remain number one in the Philippine market, Lim said.

At present, Canon is the number one in the Philippines in terms of total inkjet segment with a market share of 34 percent, laser single function printers, 35 percent market share and camera, digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras, 59 percent and powershot cameras, 29 percent.

According to Lim, Canon wants to give Filipino customers more than just a box, adding that the company wants its customers to enjoy and fully utilize their products.   "Selling cameras is simple, but going beyond that is a different story. Canon is a company who wants to help you understand photography and offer you good printers that allow you print that one-of-a kind shot," he added.

Globally, Canon has a total employees of 194,151 with a total net sles of $35.54 billion and net income of $2.2 billion in 2013. It has operations in Europe, China, Australia and USA.
