Clover’s Funding Factory Pits Schools In Recycling challenge

Recycling challenge pits North Ridgeville Middle School against Texas school
    By Julie A. Short

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio – Students at North Ridgeville Middle School (NRMS) are facing off against students from Travis Elementary School in Ennis, Texas in a “Recycling Rumble” now through April 30 to raise money by recycling. The school also will have the chance to earn cash and win an Apple iPad compliments of the national recycling program, FundingFactory.

Since 2005, the NRMS Green School Project (recycling program) has raised $4,356 in cash and rewards by recycling empty laser and inkjet cartridges and used cell phones, iPods, MP3 players, GPS devices and digital cameras with FundingFactory.

FundingFactory matched NRMS against Travis Elementary School because of their comparable recycling rate. The winning school between the two will earn a 25 percent fundraising bonus in addition to the value of all recyclables sent into FundingFactory during the contest months. The top recycler among all nationwide match-ups will win an Apple iPad.

“This is our first year participating in the Recycling Rumble,” NRMS Teacher Rebecca Mehling said. “With the monies we have raised, we have been able to purchase supplementals such as high interest magazines, books, posters, bulletin boards and cork strips to display student art work in our cafeterias, as well as keep our stock of prizes all of which are made of at least 50 percent or more post-consumer waste.”

Winning Recycling Rumble will be a community effort and victory. Community members and local businesses are asked to drop off their used ink and laser cartridges and small electronics thru April 15 in marked collection bins at the middle school.

“A little healthy competition goes a long way,” FundingFactory Co-President Sean Michaels said. “Recycling Rumble is a fun, earth-friendly way to motivate the whole community to get involved in recycling and raising money for a worthy cause. In the end, we all win by making the world a cleaner place to live.”
