CLOVER-TECH EXPANDS AGAIN ,TO HIRE 75 MORE EMPLOYEES !
    Despite
the still gloomy economy and a 14.2 percent unemployment rate in
Gratiot, Cartridges Are Us in Ithaca is the exception in today’s
world.Having started with about 79 employees, the ink jet
remanufacturer hired over 186 new employees. Now, it’s slated to begin
hiring immediately and create 75 more new jobs by the end of the year,
Greater Gratiot Development President Don Schurr said. The company, a
division of Clover Technologies, is looking for general production
workers who will work in packaging at both of the company’s Ithaca
    locations.

Cartridges Are Us relocated to Ithaca from Mexico in 2003.
    “We
are extremely grateful for all the local help we have received on this
project, especially from Greater Gratiot Development and Ithaca City.
Without all of the assistance, we would not be in Ithaca today,”
President Steve Iocco said.Chelsey Foster, Ithaca city manager, said
with the company’s latest expansion, it has become the county’s No. 1
private sector employer.Governor Jennifer Granholm announced the
state’s support for the expansion in the form of an amendment to a
previously granted Michigan Economic Growth Authority credit, Schurr
said. The additional $1.1 million credits provies a total of $2.3
million over seven years, he said and the city of Ithaca will consider
an industrial tax abatement on all new construction and equipment.”In
my opinion, expansion is the best form of economic development,” Schurr
said. “The team work between CAU, the Michigan Edonomic Development
Corporation, the city of Ithaca and our office to assist CAU was
ideal.”The company is now working on construction and expansion at both
    Ithaca plants.
