Clover Technologies Facility Throws Harvest Food Bank Benefit Dinner

CALEXICO-The Imperial Valley Food Bank (IVFB) held their 3rd Annual Benefit Dinner Harvest Bowl, Saturday night, at the Clover Technologies facility in Calexico.

The event was held to thank the local sponsors of the IVFB. In 2013, Valley farmers contributed over 787,000 pounds of locally grown fresh produce to the IVFB for distribution to needy families in Imperial County.

The IVFB serves over 20,000 Imperial County residents every month. All the food distributed was donated from a variety of sources, including local businesses and churches.

With white lights twinkling from the ceiling and a smorgasbord of wines on display, the harvest atmosphere was definitely in the air. A country band performed while guests sat at tables decorated with table toppers of large pumpkins and corn.

Every year the Imperial Valley Food Bank representatives place the name of each city of Imperial County in a large bowl filled with raw rice. At the end of the dinner, they pull a city’s name from the bowl determining the next year’s location.Pictures of children surround the bowl of rice, reminding everyone why the organization exists. 

Ticket prices for the event were a donation of $100 for the dinner which consisted of an appetizer of mushroom calzones, a first course of minestrone, a second course of antipasti salad, third course, Mediterranean pasta, a fourth of beef tenderloins, and finishing – touches of an amaretto cheesecake with biscotti and anisette cookies with coffee. Wine and beer was donated by Burgers and Beer and Alford Distributing.

The IVFB Board of Directors President spoke saying, “Every seat is full tonight. This is just a small indication of the support the Food Bank receives from the Imperial Valley, there is just so much support tonight, and it’s great.”

The IVFB distributes nutritious food to non-profit partners throughout the Imperial Valley who then distribute food directly to people in need in their local neighborhoods. In addition, they bring fresh produce and emergency aid to eight rural communities each month. The IVFB also helps children in local schools with the food backpack program.
