Duracell plant donates office equipment for Lancaster schools
LANCASTER COUNTY — Procter & Gamble Duracell’s battery plant in Lancaster is donating office equipment and supplies to Lancaster County schools.Schools will divvy up more than 100 pieces of equipment, including copiers, printers and “carts spilling over with toner cartridges,” according to a district news release.“We are so fortunate that Duracell believes in our public schools and finds ways to help our schools meet the needs of students and teachers,” Lancaster County schools Superintendent Gene Moore said. “We will certainly use the supplies Duracell donated to make a difference for our students.”The donation comes at a time when cash-strapped public schools are increasingly leaning on private sources of support to help make up for three years of cuts in state money.

South Carolina school districts have eliminated hundreds of jobs, scaled back programs and put off maintenance costs to curb spending.“We’re putting off buying new things and trying to get a longer life out of what we have because of the budgets,” Lancaster County schools Spokesman David Knight said. After the battery plant recently upgraded its office equipment, officials contacted school district leaders to offer the donation.Duracell human resources manager Bruce Barre and a group of employees whose family members work in the district presented the equipment this month.
