EMPLOYEE SCAMS $3.8M FROM CANCER HOSPITAL (INK CARTRIDGES)
Sloan-Kettering Employee Accused of $3.8M Ink Cartridge Scam
    Marque
Gumbs allegedly stole ink cartridges from the Sloan-Kettering Cancer
    Center building on East 53rd Street.MIDTOWN — A 32-year-old hospital
worker was arrested for allegedly stealing over a million dollars worth
of toner-cartridges over three years and selling them on the black
market, according to court papers.Marque Gumbs, who earned $37,000 a
year from the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, allegedly lived the
high-life after selling the cartridges. He padded his bank account with
$149,048 worth of cash deposits and also paid $50,500 in cash for a BMW
X6, according to court papers.Gumbs was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal
Court Wednesday and charged with grand larceny. He is being held on a
$100,000 bail.”He kept a fairly low profile, but the way he dressed was a
little flashy,” a neighbor of his at the Trump Plaza in New Rochelle
told The Wall Street Journal. “You could tell he wore fancy clothes but
he himself was low key as a person.”Gumbs reportedly worked as a
receiving clerk at the hospital’s outpatient campus on East 53rd Street.
The job gave him control over ordering, receiving and stocking the ink
    cartridges.

He ordered $1.2 million worth of cartridges between
October 2009 and August 2010 that were not compatible with any of the
printers at his facility, the complaint said. Gumbs ordered a total of
about $3.8 million worth of ink cartridges while he was working for
Sloan-Kettering, The Journal reported.Gumbs allegedly asked the delivery
truck to meet him on the street instead of inside the building and then
stashed the goods inside the garbage bay area, according to the court
papers.A spokesperson for Sloan-Kettering told The Journal that Gumbs
started working cancer center in 1999 but has been terminated.

Scumbag Steals Millions From Hospital With Printer Toner Scam
    As
a receiving clerk for New York’s Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer
Center, 32-year-old Marque Gumbs made $US37,000 a year. Well, that’s how
much he made officially. He actually raked in millions by ordering and
flipping thousands of unneeded toner-ink cartridges.

    Marque Gumbs
was just another office supply guy. When the hospital’s printers needed
new toner cartridges, he was responsible for ordering them from Office
Depot, receiving them, and installing them in the facility’s various
printers. But according to a recently filed criminal complaint, Gumbs
didn’t just order the toner the hospital needed – he was responsible for
ordering $US3.8 million in unnecessary and incompatible cartridges over
the last six years, none of which, authorities say, ever even made it
    into the hospital.

Here’s how the scam worked: Before one of his
special deliveries, Gumbs would call the Office Depot driver and arrange
to meet him on the street instead of the usual receiving area. Then
he’d sell toner in bulk, and he made quite a bit of money doing it. From
October 2009 to August 2010 alone, Gumbs ordered $US1.2 million in
toner the hospital didn’t need. He used that money to pay for a 2011 BMW
X6 and a one-bedroom apartment in a Trump Plaza high rise, putting down
$US50,000 in cash for the car’s down payment.

    Thankfully, this
most detestable scumbag was caught – video surveillance shows him
intercepting the toner deliveries and ferreting them off to the
hospital’s garage – and he’s currently being held on a charge grand
larceny in excess of $US1 million
