Epson Taiwan Donates Robots to Factory Automation Center of Lunghwa University of Science and Technology – Joins HTC, NI and Wisetech in promoting the development of factory automation in Taiwan –

Epson executives present university staff with robots for the new factory automation center.

Beginning with robots to assemble wristwatches, Epson has over 30 years of experience in offering industrial solutions. With increasing demands for greater efficiency in production, Epson has stepped up its efforts to leverage its core technologies and other strengths to accelerate the trend towards the automation of manufacturing, and generate new value for customers.

Epson Taiwan Technology & Trading Ltd. (Epson Taiwan) began promoting sales of factory automation equipment in the Greater China market in 2010 with the aim of helping local customers boost production efficiency and profits. At the same time, the company – which in 2012 celebrated its 30th year – has actively sought to promote industry-university collaboration and contribute to nurturing expertise in related fields in Taiwan.

To achieve this, Epson Taiwan began working with Lunghwa University of Science and Technology (LHU), High Tech Computer Corporation (HTC), National Instruments (NI) and Wisetech, a systems integrator, to set up the university’s first factory automation center. As part of its program, Epson donated two of its robots and began a comprehensive training program for teacher education. The goal is to cultivate students and encourage them to contribute to the growth of the factory automation industry in Taiwan.

"Epson Taiwan entered the factory automation industry in 2010. By 2012, we’ve already achieved sales volumes of NT$0.4 billion (approx.. US$14 million), which demonstrates the great market potential of this industry," said Sure Lee, president of Epson Taiwan. "Epson’s focus is on more than simply extending its current business. We also forecast great potential for the industry and the huge demand for young talent. This is why Epson has taken the opportunity to cooperate with LHU."

Epson donated a four-axis Epson SCARA LS3 robot and a six-axis Epson ProSix C3 robot to the Automation Center. The company also provides relevant training and certification programs.

Tzu-Hsiang Ge, president of LHU, declared, "It was really exciting to participate in the signing ceremony for our first automation center. At the beginning, we aim to cultivate young talent by working closely with our partner companies. My sincere thanks go to Epson for their robots and expertise. As an old Chinese saying goes, "It takes ten years to grow a tree, but educating people is a lifelong project."
