Erie Copy Products Exec Faces Sentencing For $8M Swindle

ERIE, Pa.— A woman who helped an Erie businessman cheat his copy machine business customers out of roughly $8 million is set for sentencing before a federal judge in Erie.

Mary Beth Nagorski pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in October, and federal prosecutors are asking that receive more than three years in prison on Thursday.

Nagorski was vice president of finance for Erie Copy Products Inc., whose 58-year-old owner, Frederick Zurn, died in January before he could begin serving his 4½-year prison sentence.

Zurn had pleaded guilty to wire fraud and willful failure to collect or pay over payroll taxes from his defunct business.

Zurn and Nagorski’s customers — including Erie-area churches and schools — paid for leases on copy machines they never received, or which were broken or less expensive than promised.
