A woman who worked as an accounting specialist at the Gainesville Housing Authority pleaded guilty last week to selling $28,000 of stolen office supplies on her personal eBay account, according to court documents.

Jennifer Sipe pleaded guilty to one count of federal program theft. She was sentenced Thursday, Sept. 13, to 12 months on probation.

The Times reached out to multiple housing authority officials for comment, but those attempts were unsuccessful. Sipe’s attorney Judy Fleming did not return multiple attempts for comment Tuesday from The Times.

According to U.S. District Court documents, Sipe worked with the housing authority between July 2012 and August 2017. One of her duties included ordering office supplies.

According to the U.S. attorney, Sipe “ordered unnecessary printer/copier supplies from Xerox” between January 2014 and August 2017.

“Sipe was able to do so undetected because GHA’s contract with Xerox allowed GHA employees, including Sipe, to order additional Xerox supplies without generating a purchase order or any additional documentation,” according to the charging documents.

The U.S. attorney also charged Sipe with stealing toner cartridges and “Pitney Bowes-branded postage strips, fluorescent ink and sealing solution.”

“Sipe thereafter resold the improperly ordered or stolen GHA office supplies on her personal eBay account at a significant discount from the retail price. Between approximately January 2014 and August 2017, Sipe sold hundreds of stolen Xerox and Pitney Bowes products worth approximately $28,000 on her personal eBay account,” according to the charging documents.

Sipe was ordered to pay $9,112.27 in restitution to the Gainesville Housing Authority.
