Fuji Xerox Eyes New Printer Plant In Thailand

The Japan-based Fuji Xerox is considering whether to build a multifunctional printer factory in Thailand in a move aimed at expanding its business in Myanmar.

But the investment plan would depend heavily on the Thai government’s plan to increase monthly wages and flood management strategies, said Sommart Bunyasunanond, a vice-president of Fuji Xerox (Thailand).

Fuji is preparing to increase the capital of its subsidiary Fuji Xerox Leasing Co by two-thirds to 100 million baht. The funds will be spent on increasing office equipment leasing demand.

Mr Sommart said the company plans to use the local operating unit as a springboard to expanding into Myanmar as the economy and government appear to be more open.

The expansion plan is in line with the firm’s policy of expanding manufacturing factories in the Asia-Pacific excluding Japan, China and South Korea, to lower costs and improve logistics systems.

He said Thailand and Vietnam are two of four potential locations for factories. Fuji has a recycled product factory in Thailand.

Fuji Thailand expects revenue growth of at least 15% this year, fuelled mainly by document management solutions sales thanks to increasing demand from hospitals, the manufacturing sector, finance and banks, and education industries.

Mr Sommart said leases made up 60% of total customers. The figure is expected to continue rising thanks to slowing economic growth.

The office equipment leasing market is gaining momentum, boosted by a reduction in document management costs by 30%.

He said the company plans to spend 100 million baht developing industry solutions and expanding shops upcountry.

For fiscal 2011 ending March 31, Fuji’s revenue grew by 11%, short of its 20% target due to floods and a hard-disk supply shortage.
