HP launches Instant Ink auto-ordering service in UK
by Matthew JarvisHP has launched its new Instant Ink subscription service in the UK.
The service allows a Wi-Fi-enabled HP printer to automatically monitor ink levels and re-order ink cartridges from HP when levels begin to run low.
HP claims that the automated ordering could save consumers up to 70 per cent on ink costs, but requires that they be limited to a certain number of pages per month.
Pricing models for Instant Ink begin at £1.99 per month for 50 pages, before increasing to £3.49 for 100 pages and £7.99 for 300 pages.
Users who exceed the monthly page allowance can choose to pay an extra pound for 15, 20 or 25 additional pages. Unused pages roll over to the following month.
Printer models that currently support the service include the HP Envy 4500, Envy 5530, Officejet 4630, Officejet Pro 8610 and Officejet Pro 8620. All of the printers use a single cartridge for all ink colours, meaning only one cartridge needs to be replaced each month.
The Instant Ink service is available in the UK now, with the rest of Europe to follow.
Retailers can offer Instant Ink subscription cards to consumers for a month’s subscription to the service. The cards are currently available in Currys and PC World and John Lewis.
