HP Launches anti counterfeit Ink Cartridge App‎ ( iOS app)
HP’s new print cartridge packaging now comes with a QR code, which you can scan using the eSupplies app.
SHANGHAI, China–In China, 58 percent of consumers unwittingly buy counterfeit ink cartridges, according to HP. In addition, the company says that 57 percent of its regional consumers who do so tend to report printer damage after installing the fake ink cartridges.

To help protect consumers who may not be able to differentiate between real and fake cartridges, HP has launched its eSupplies app on iOS devices. This app comes with a built-in QR code scanner which can identify whether the cartridge is genuine, as HP strengthens its fight against counterfeits.

The app also helps to identify the right ink cartridge model for your HP printer, if you’re prone to forgetting which one to buy. Once identified, you can even click on "buy online" from Web merchants. You will first be diverted to HP’s Web site, which will list down the prices at which you can purchase the ink cartridges.
