Hp Wins U.S. Department of Defense Contract Worth up to $548Million
    By Patrick Morris

Hewlett-Packard  announced today that its enterprise services division has been awarded a task order by the U.S. Department of Defense's Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC) for five years that could be worth up to $548 million.

The contract will result in HP providing maintenance and support around the globe for software and hardware that is deemed "mission critical." HP will be the primary contractor and it will "provide highly reliable and globally available commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) Hardware Support Services as well as Software, Maintenance and Integration Services."

The HP press release highlighted the DMDC has to have a service provider and contractor that can allow it to support and sustain its missions in the continuously evolving and changing technology landscape. In addition, the activities of the DMDC may also change in both peaceful and wartime periods, and the technology provider will have to accommodate these shifts.

"For our government clients with complex IT environments, it is critical to have strong foundational hardware and software to provide the vital services its citizens need," said Marilyn Crouther, senior vice president and general manager, HP enterprise services, U.S. public sector.

The release concluded by noting that HP has been a provider of IT applications, support, and solutions to DMDC for more than 30 years, and it has been a provider of services to the government for more than 45 years.
