IN 5 YEARS HP’s CORVALIS PLANT PUMPS 254 TONS OF AIR POLLUTION
    The
state Department of Environmental Quality is inviting the public to
comment on an application to renew the air emissions permit for
    Hewlett-Packard’s Corvallis facility.

    The
plant produces air pollutants from the manufacture of silicon wafers
and other aspects of the production process for inkjet printer
    components.

Comments will be accepted until 5 p.m. Nov. 10. They
should be addressed to Patty Hamman and can be e-mailed to
hamman.patricia@deq.state.or.us, faxed to 503-378-4196 or mailed to 750
Front St. N.E., Suite 120, Salem, OR 97301-1039.

    HP is asking
for a five-year renewal of its current permit with no change in
conditions. Under the current permit, the Corvallis facility can
annually emit up to 24 tons of particulate matter, 14 tons of fine
particulates, 39 tons of nitrogen oxides, 39 tons of sulfur dioxide, 99
tons of carbon monoxide and 39 tons of volatile organic compounds.
