Industry Analysts:Toshiba Declares First Annual No Print Day

SAN DIEGO (June 2012) — As part of its ongoing mission to get businesses to print smarter and practice sustainable consumption, Toshiba America Business Solutions, Inc. (http://business.toshiba.com), today announced the first annual National No-Print Day (NNPD) to be held on Oct. 23, 2012. NNPD is a nationwide campaign to encourage, educate and challenge individuals and companies to commit to one day of no printing to raise awareness of the impact printing has on our planet.

“We know that approximately 336,000,000 sheets of paper are wasted daily – that’s more than 40,000 trees discarded every day in America. We as individuals and companies are failing to make the link between printing waste and its negative impacts on our landfills, natural resources and the environment,” said Bill Melo, vice president of marketing, services and solutions, Toshiba America Business Solutions, Inc. “For those reasons, Toshiba is leading the charge with NNPD to raise awareness of the role of paper in the workplace by not printing at all for one day.”

NNPD will be launched at the Sustainable Brands ’12 Conference, June 4-7 in San Diego, to an audience of more than 1,000 leading sustainability, business and brand strategy executives from top global brands. The campaign is also being introduced to the consumer public through a comprehensive online and social media launch highlighted by the debut of ‘Tree,’ the good-natured Toshiba employee and spokescharacter for NNPD.

“Our plan is to first target the most influential audience in sustainable consumption by making a big statement at the Sustainable Brands ’12,” explained Melo. “We want the entire audience to know that our goal with NNPD is nothing short of changing behavior and the very way we print at the office and home. To achieve this, we’ve committed to a comprehensive awareness and social media campaign – the star of which is ‘Tree,’ our affable spokescharacter who will be featured in a series of webisodes about making NNPD a reality.”

The NNPD website (http://www.NationalNoPrintDay.com), Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/National-No-Print-Day/468077523208385) and LinkedIn® page (http://www.linkedin.com/pub/tree-birch/52/781/377) will target consumers with shareable webisodes and content about sustainable consumption practices for the office and home. Additionally, visitors and fans will learn how they can participate in NNPD, engage with ‘Tree’ to help him get a well-deserved day off by taking the No-Print Pledge (a Facebook “like”), and ultimately share NNPD among their social networks.

NNPD is part of a larger commitment by Toshiba Corporation to plant 1.5 million trees by 2025 in celebration of its 150th anniversary. Toshiba America Business Solution is also dedicated to showing organizations how to “green” their document management processes through its Encompass program that helps businesses print less and MPS Green Report to identify how to reduce paper and electricity usage; and partnerships with Close the Loop to offer zero waste to landfill recycling and Adobe to introduce LeanPrint, a revolutionary new way to reduce paper and toner waste.
