Lexmark Employee in Philippines is Volunteer Of The Year after two local natural disasters

A Lexmark employee involved in supplying chain operations worldwide from the Philippines has been named the company’s volunteer of the year for 2013.

Trixy Mendoza, senior manager in Global Supply Chain Operations in Cebu, responded to two natural disasters – an October earthquake and a November typhoon.

Lexmark reports that Mendoza led efforts to raise money for victims and to help provide disaster relief. The company said Mendoza’s efforts “in particular went above and beyond.”

After the 7.2-magnitude earthquake devastated parts of the Philippines, Mendoza led a group of 50 volunteers to provide immediate relief in the form of supplies and emotional support for more than 400 families.

A few weeks later, Typhoon Haiyan caused widespread destruction in the region. Mendoza traveled about three hours from Cebu City, where close family members were affected, to coordinate operations that benefited some 1,500 families. She also formed several partnerships with international organizations to begin home rebuilding projects.

In addition to responding to the disasters, Mendoza was actively involved in Lexmark Cebu’s adopt-a-school program and continues to volunteer in an outreach program for abused children.

“What Trixy has shown is a great example of how passion can make a big difference,” said Christophe Calligaro, director of the Cebu Shared Services Center and Mendoza’s manager. “She went the extra mile and unselfishly devoted herself to the call of service. We are thrilled to see her receive Lexmark’s Volunteer of the Year award.”
