As 3D printing continues to generate futuristic headlines like "Print your own medicine" and "Printed chocolate made possible", a team has been busy planning a 3D printing conference called 3D Printshow 2012. They have signed up MakerBot, i.materialise, Econolyst and Anarkik 3D to exhibit during the three day event running October 19th to 21st 2012 in London.

The event will bring together all areas of the industry to show the latest innovations in 3D printing and all of its applications in the consumer, fashion, home, music, education, transportation, architecture and medical industries and is expected to attract over 3500 people.

Kerry Hogarth, 3D Printshow Founder, comments, “3D printing technology isn’t new. It’s been revolutionising the manufacturing industry for over 15 years, but the past two years have seen an explosion in its popularity. 3D printing is now moving out of the factory and into our daily lives – so much so that in future we’ll soon be seeing a 3D printer in every home. That’s why we’ve launched the 3D Printshow now.” She continues, “3D printing is waiting in the wings, but thus far most consumers don’t know what it is, and the industry hasn’t managed to communicate how impactful it will be. The 3D Printshow will bring together manufacturers, industry specialists, media and consumers to tackle both of those issues head on and produce a Manifesto. We want it to be more than just a showcase – we want 3D Printshow to be a driving force in the development of the industry.”

The event will feature live demonstrations, workshops and seminars and the first day will be dedicated to trade professionals.

Key features of the show include:

3D Print Show Live: Running across all three days will be a series of exclusive events with 3D printed fashion, unique design pieces and musicians performing entirely on 3D printed instruments. Even the fashion show catwalk will be 3D printed.

Seminars and workshops: Over fifty seminars and workshops, presented by industry specialists, designers and innovators.

Specially commissioned work: Cutting edge designers like Silvia Weidenbach and Tobias Klein will be collaborating to create unique work exclusive for the show.

A 3D Printshow Manifesto: The show will also see the development of a 3D Printing Manifesto that will help raise awareness of the technology, bridging the gap between the advancement of the technology and consumer awareness.

Leading industry analyst Dr Phil Reeves, Managing Director of Econolyst and speaker at 3D Printshow 2012 also comments, “The cost of 3D printers has decreased exponentially over the past five years – from £20,000 for the cheapest printer in 2007, to £10,000 in 2010 to just £1500 today. The technology is commoditising and enabling a whole new community of businesses. Soon we’ll see thousands of home based creative workers designing and printing products for retail and their own personal use. This is just the beginning.”

Tickets for the consumer show will be released to the public on June 1st 2012 and more information can be read here.
