MALAYSIA :HON HAI PRECISION INDUSTRY LTD TO BUILD NEW INK CARTRIDGE PLANT
Hon Hai Reportedly to Deploy Production in Malaysia
Taipei, Aug. 2011 –Unfazed by uncertain global economy, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd., the world’s largest electronic contract manufacturer, has reportedly planned to set up plants for producing ink cartridges and handset housings in Malaysia, according to local new agencies.
Although the investment plan has yet to be confirmed by Hon Hai or local officials, a Malaysian new agency Oriental Daily News has reported that the company has acquired a land lot of 15 acres in Asiatic Indahpura in the country, and will build four production plants there. Accordingly, the construction will be carried out in four stages, with 4 out of the 15 acres to be developed into the production area in the first stage, which is scheduled to be completed at the end of this September at the earliest.
Oriental News Daily indicated that Hon Hai will draw experienced engineers from Japan to the manufacturing base, while recruiting ordinary workers and production line operators locally. Allegedly, the company has sent some of its newly recruited workers to Shenzhen, southern China, for training.
To cope with rising labor costs in China’s coastal provinces, where several of Hon Hai’s plants are sited, chairman Terry Gou decided to build a foothold in Vietnam in 2007, which was the company’s first investment in Southeast Asia and resulted in an investment boom in the country among Taiwanese electronic manufacturers then.
In addition to Malaysia, the news agency also reported that Hon Hai has intended to set up another production plant in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, which, however, isn’t confirmed by the company either.
Headquartered in Taiwan, Hon Hai has extensively deployed its production in a number of foreign countries, including China, Vietnam, India, Turkey, Hungary, Czech, Finland, Russia, Mexico, the U.S., etc.
Not long ago, Hon Hai just announced its investment in Brazil and an acquisition of a set-top box plant owned by Cisco in Mexico. Despite global economic uncertainty, the company apparently has no intention to slow its production deployment pace this year.
