    China Mito Launches
Cloned Canon Toner Dongle Gear Without Oem Autorization

The Chinese company has released an “IP-safe dongle gear”  ( Not True) solution as an alternative that does not infringe on the OEM’s General Exclusion Order (GEO) in the USA.

In a press release, Mito stated that it is “releasing its IP-safe MTG series gear as an alternative to Canon’s dongle gear”, adding that the Intellectual Property Rights Branch of US Customs and Border Protection “issued its letter of ruling” on 1 February 2017, stating that the “Mito toner cartridges with the MTG01, MTG02 and MTG03 coupling member-drum flange assemblies do not violate the ‘918 GEO”.

The letter stated: “[T]he Mito Products do not infringe upon the independent claims of the ‘278, ‘564, ‘215, ‘008, and ‘090 patents and thus these articles are outside the scope of the 918 GEO. As such, they are not subject to exclusion from entry for consumption into the United States, entry for consumption from a foreign-trade zone, or withdrawal from a warehouse for consumption”.

Mito added that its IP team “has done a great job in designing around the patents covered” by the GEO, with features of the solution including being “rotatable in all directions”, “easy installation into all printers without any abnormal sound”, and “smooth disengagement from all printers without the risk of damaging [them]”.

The gears are compatible with a “wide range of monochrome cartridges”, with the MTG01 compatible with: the CE505A/X; CF280A/X; the MTG02 compatible with: the CE255A/X; and finally, the MTG03 compatible with the CF226A/X, CF228A/X and CF287A/X.
