NZ Launches Recycling Initiative
A press
release on Scoop announced a new initiative from Canon New Zealand and
JB HiFi. While the idea in itself is nothing new – Staples offers the
same scheme for printer purchases – the fact that it is being done with
the environment in mind certainly makes it noteworthy.Canon New Zealand
would like to encourage its customers to recycle their old and obsolete
printers by offering a 20% discount off the purchase price of their new
Canon printers. New Zealand residents who are in the market for a new
printer and would like to take advantage of the offer are urged to bring
their old inkjet or laser printer, regardless of what make, model and
condition it is in to a JB HiFi store during the month of March. They
will then receive a 20% discount when they buy a new Canon PIXMA inkjet
printer. The printers that will be brought into JB HiFi will then be
taken to Computer Recycling Ltd, a company based in Auckland, for
recycling. The company segregates printer units into “relevant commodity
streams,” such as plastic, steel or copper. This ensures that the
machine is recycled almost a hundred percent.
Print Solutions
Brand Manager Robert de Jeu of Canon New Zealand revealed that the
initiative was forged to give consumers a convenient way to recycle
their old printers while at the same time strengthening the company’s
commitment to the environment:“This is the first time we have offered a
recycling program like this, which builds on our philosophy of product
life cycle management. We are constantly investigating new ways to
reduce environmental impact from production through to end-of-life with
our products.”
