Canon to consolidate mold production ops in January
TOKYO
– Canon Inc plans to consolidate mold production operations in January
as part of efforts to speed up product development and cut costs, the
Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported, without citing sources. The mold-making
segment of the parent firm and that of toner cartridge production
subsidiary Canon Chemicals Inc will be transferred to Igari Mold Co,
which Canon turned into a wholly owned unit in 2004 to increase
in-house mold output, it said. Igari Mold’s workforce is to double to
400 after a total of 200 mold workers are transferred from Canon and
Canon Chemicals, the business daily said. The subsidiary’s sales are
projected to triple to 10 bln yen, it said. Canon aims to achieve cost
cuts of 10-20 pct with the move, the Nihon Keizai said.
