AnonymousInactiveCanon makes Viet Nam a printer capital
(07-2007)Canon
Viet Nam has gained remarkable growth in manufacturing, passing over
Fujitsu to become the biggest hardware exporter with a total export
turnover of US$640 million last year. Viet Nam News talked with Mike
Asao, Canon Singapore Chief Representative in Viet Nam at the biggest
ICT event, the Viet Nam Computer Electronics World Expo and Viet Nam
ICT Outlook 2007.
Can you talk about how Canon performed last year?
We
had a remarkable increase in hardware export thanks to our capacity in
printers. Why did we decide to produce printers in Viet Nam?Printers
constitute one of the major strategic products for Canon. It’s very
important for the development of Canon all over the world. We chose
Viet Nam due to the high quality of the workforce and an open policy
from the government for foreign investors.Initially, our concentration
was in China because the infrastructure in Viet Nam was not ready yet.
But right now, we have some problems in China, especially anti-Japanese
activities. We have found Viet Nam offers a good environment for
investment and manufacturing. The infrastructure has improved as well.Canon
is now very happy to operate in Viet Nam. We are certain we will
continue to invest more in the country in the near future.
For
Canon’s exports, I can say it is growing tremendously. This year we
will reach a total turnover of $1 billion. Thanks to the fast ratio, we
plan on increasing our investments here. One thing I would like to
highlight is that Canon appreciates people here and support from the
government, which are very friendly to us. That is the reason why I can
promise continuous investment from Canon to Viet Nam and that we will
stay here for the long term. Can you comment on the local consumption market?
Canon
is honoured to be the Diamond Sponsor for the Viet Nam Computer
Electronics World Expo and Viet Nam ICT Outlook for the fourth
consecutive year. This time, we brought more than 100 new products,
including digital cameras, camcorders, printers, scanners and
projectors, to introduce to Vietnamese customers. We highly appreciate
the local market, which includes very young people and those whose
incomes will continue to grow for many years.Do you offer maintenance services for Canon’s products in Viet Nam?
I
have a good news for customers who love photography. The latest
professional camera repair service centre is available in HCM City. The
Canon Imaging Solution Centre at 439 Hai Ba Trung street, district 3,
has been open since April. We are thinking about having another centre
in Ha Noi as well. Can you tell us about the quality of Canon products made in Viet Nam?
At
present, Canon has three factories in the northern province of Bac
Ninh. Products from these factories provide more than 50 per cent of
demand for Canon printers from all over the world. The quality of the
printers made in Viet Nam is very good. We can assure that the quality
is exactly the same as that in Japan thanks to a strict quality control
system, which meets international standards. Therefore, Vietnamese can
be proud to see products made in Viet Nam now appearing throughout the
world. -
