Canon unleashes a whopper of a printer
The base model of the Canon imagePress C7000VP digital colour production printer has a price tag of RM1mil, and is developed to meet the high demands of the commercial print industry, said the manufacturer. This model is able to provide its users with excellent image quality, shorter run lengths and faster turnaround time, said Liew Sip Chon, Canon Malaysia president and CEO. “It helps print businesses to increase productivity and enhance cost efficiency.”

The C7000VP is able to produce printouts with a natural glossiness, a quality on par with that of traditional offset prints, thanks to its Tough Carrier (T Carrier) and Gloss Optimisation technologies, said Canon. But it will not replace offset printers which are already dominating the print industry, according to Liew. He foresees the C7000VP working alongside offset machines, helping commercial printers expand their business opportunities or create new ones. This printer, almost the size of a typical hotel reception desk, uses a high-precision twin-beam read laser and vivid colour toner to produce crisp text and stunning images at 1,200 x 1,200dpi (dots per inch) with 256 levels of gradation. It has a rated speed of 70 pages per minute for both colour and monochrome images. The C7000VP also features an oil-less fusing system to ensure printouts do not stick to each other while helping to reduce the overall operating temperature of the printer. Its Automatic Reciprocal Colour Density Adjustment Technology (ARCDAT) calibration system provides a constant colour tone by automatically regulating toner density according to changes in temperature, humidity and other operational conditions. The machine’s ColorWise Pro Tools software suite offers detailed, prompt and easy colour management on the fly, said Canon. It also has a 10.4in touchscreen display, can saddle-stitch booklets and has a 10,000-sheet feeder with air-assisted paper-feed system that prevents double feeding.
