China’s printer shipments reached 2.4 million in fourth quarter 2005
    BEIJING
MARCH 2006 – Analysys International, a leading Internet based provider
of business information about Technology, Media and Telecom industry in
China, says that unit shipments of printers in China reached 2.445
million with market value of RMB 3.26 billion in the fourth quarter of
2005, in its recently released report China Printer Market Quarterly
    Tracker Q4 2005.
Analysys International says the unit shipments
increased 12.0% YoY and the market value only 5.5% YoY. Industrial
profits of China’s printer market continued to decline. Price
    competition is pervasive.
In the fourth quarter of 2005, as laser
printer prices continued to go down, many enterprise users began to
choose laser printers when purchasing new ones. Color laser printer
market developed especially well. Prices of inkjet printer consumables
declined a lot, which considerably reduced inkjet printing costs. As a
result, the number of low- and medium-end users who bought inkjet
printers increased. Stylus printer market maintained stable growth and
professional level stylus printer still had a relatively large user
    group.
According to the report, HP achieved excellent performance in
laser printer market, particularly in the color laser printer market,
leading the market with an extremely high market share of 30.2%. Epson
still had advantages in stylus printer and inkjet printer market, with
a market share of 21.8%. Canon and Lenovo were close concerning market
value of shipments, being in the third and the fourth positions. Dell
had been very active and made great breakthroughs on sales since it
entered China’s printer market. However, Analysys International says
Dell had a market share of about only 1%, hardly posing any threat to
the big players, such as HP, in the printer market
