Dell Is First Printer Supplier to Use New Service
MOORPARK,
CA — -2005 — QualityLogic (www.qualitylogic.com) is the first
independent testing lab to offer a certified, standard, comprehensive
page-yield test service for printers that use color or photo ink
cartridges. The company began offering a similar service for color and
mono toner printers earlier this year. Dell will be the first printer
supplier to make extensive use of the complete service.
Until now,
printer manufacturers have tested the page yield of ink-cartridge
printers using different criteria and methodologies. So, when
prospective buyers try to compare the yield of one printer with that of
another, they are comparing apples and oranges. This is a real problem
because, over several years, the cost of cartridges is usually far more
than the cost of the printer.
QualityLogic’s page-yield test service
is targeted at printer and cartridge manufacturers — and at large
government agencies and corporate customers who need standard,
independent verification of page yields to make multi-million-dollar
buying decisions. The company is also providing a special “Certified
Page Yield” logo that manufacturers can use in advertising and on
packaging for their certified printers.
“Every printer company in
the world and their technology providers are long-time customers of
ours. Our testing products and services have become the defacto
standards for everything from printer performance to PDL conformance to
fax interoperability,” said Dave Jollota, QualityLogic COO. “This gives
us tremendous credibility as a third-party lab. If printers carry our
‘Certified Page Yield’ logo, the customer will know the yield
information is accurate and comparable.”
QualityLogic uses ISO yield
test standards that have been adopted or are in development. Currently,
an ISO mono-toner methodology has been adopted, and color-toner and
color-inkjet methodologies are in balloting. ISO is also considering
the development of a standard for photo ink printers. Where there are
no ISO yield test methodologies, QualityLogic has developed
methodologies, and will offer to share them with ISO. As new ISO
methodologies are adopted, QualityLogic will modify their methodologies
to match them, where necessary.
QualityLogic has proprietary
technology and processes that ensure efficient testing and superior
quality in its page-yield test services. Its PageServe software, in
conjunction with other tools and practices, tracks pages printed from
every cartridge and every printer. Other proprietary processes,
methods, tools and test documentation manage the test process to make
sure it is fast and efficient, and at the same time, to ensure quality
control.
“Printer customers require standards or independent testing
methods to compare specifications between manufacturers and make
informed purchase decisions,” said Tony Mara, Dell’s senior manager of
imaging and printing product marketing. “We chose QualityLogic because
of their objective, data-driven approach, 20 years of focus on the
printing industry, and their experience in developing other performance
standards and PDL testing.”
