    Dell debuts admin-controlled colour laser
printersColour Track software allows only specified users to print in colour

Dell is Launching three colour laser printers featuring technology that allows systems administrators to restrict the use of colour by users.

Fuji Xerox will manufacture the three printers, which range in price from £259 to £700.

The 3000cn (£259 excluding VAT) is aimed at consumers and small workgroups, and offers up to 25 mono pages per minute (ppm) and up to five colour ppm.

The slightly more expensive 3100cn (£319 excluding VAT) is compatible with a range of operating systems, and has the same printing capacity. Dell is aiming it at small to medium sized businesses.

The 3100cn also has deep paper holding drawers, and a high capacity toner which Dell claims can reduce the cost of printing colour pages by around 30 per cent.

The top-of-the-range 5100cn is for medium to large businesses and runs at 35ppm in mono and 25ppm in colour.

Dell’s Colour Track software comes as standard with all three models, and allows administrators to control the use of colour ink by allocating access only to specific users.

All three printers also come with LCD displays, USB 2.0 ports, 576MB of memory and can print on both sides of the paper.

“The colour printing market is rapidly growing but consumers are constantly faced with expensive printers and expensive running costs,” said John Kelly, imaging business manager at Dell UK.

“By Removing the barriers of purchasing and operating costs, Dell hopes to offer top-quality individual and business products at reasonable prices.”
