    Reaching for the Gold

    Changes, Challenges and confidence characterize the current state of the remanufacturing industry. Aftermarket imaging suppliers and remanufacturers in the United States view today’s market as the most stable and mature in history. The overall market is still seen as one that holds many opportunities for continued growth in the foreseeable future.

    The good feelings are fueled by color laser and inkjet cartridge markets that hold boom-like potential for those willing to tackle the technical challenges. Small office/home office (SOHO) customers are perceived as untapped for remanufacturers able to penetrate the elusive market. Perhaps more than any time in the history of the industry, OEMs other than Hewlett-Packard are being targeted by remanufacturers flexible and sophisticated enough in their manufacturing to meet the demands involved with offering a comprehensive product line. While the U.S. installed printer base is seen more as evolving rather than growing, installed bases in less mature regions of the world continue to rise and are viewed as areas with unlimited growth potential for those organizations with a global reach.

    “The remanufacturing industry has reached a mature, professional level,” said Mike Josiah, vice president of technical services at Summit Technologies of New York. “I believe our industry has the potential to keep growing beyond what it has already
