Epson, Microsoft Ink Patents Deal
Today,
Epson and Microsoft Corp have announced a cross-licensing agreement,
which will allow both companies increased access to each other’s patent
portfolios.Simply put, the agreement will help both Epson and Microsoft
to broaden their product offerings, and deliver more comprehensive and
cost-effective solutions.
Terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
Sources
from the two companies say this move will promote greater exchange and
implementation of patented technologies in several consumer and
business Electronics segments.Commenting on the agreement, Masataka
Kamiyanagi, Executive Officer of Intellectual Property Division, Epson,
said, “With this agreement, we can share technologies that each company
has invested in, and bring the resulting success to the marketplace. We
expect to expand our mutual relations in order to protect our
intellectual properties on a global level, especially against
counterfeit problems.”Marshall Phelps, Corporate Vice President and
Deputy General Counsel for Microsoft, said, “Epson is an important
industry ally for us, and by sharing our intellectual property, we can
extend the reach of our respective innovations to our customers.
Intellectual property licensing is a cornerstone of today’s software
industry, and essential for the development of comprehensive technology
solutions.”
