Epson cuts jobs at UK moulding plant
The Telford site manufactures printer ink cartridges.
March 2006 – Epson is to cut up to 50 jobs at a plant in Shropshire, UK, citing a downturn in trade.
Management
said the jobs will go at the Telford plant, which comprises an
injection moulding facility, printer ink manufacturing and cartridge
assembly, as part of an overall review of business.
Operations support manager Ray Prior said the company faced increasingly competitive trading conditions worldwide.
He
said in a statement: “In order to maintain and enhance our
competitiveness, the company is undertaking a review of its ink
business unit. The expected consequence of this review is that there
will be reductions in the number of support staff and operators.”
A year ago Epson cut 50 job cuts following substantial investment in hi-tech production equipment.
