From cartridges to elephant conservation …
It’s all part of a day’s work for primary school children!
Primary
school children are learning all about the lives of orphan elephants,
as part of a new educational initiative by Cartridge SAVE to encourage
environmental awareness among children aged 7-11.The recent BBC
documentary series, Elephant Diaries, is providing inspiration for
primary school children taking part in Cartridge SAVE’s educational
initiative, which is currently being rolled out in schools across the
country. The UK’s leading online retailer of printer cartridges,
Cartridge SAVE actively encourages cartridge recycling and refilling.
Revenue from every recycled inkjet and toner cartridge is then donated
by Cartridge SAVE to The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust – the charity
that hit the media spotlight for its work in rescuing and
rehabilitating orphan rhinos and elephants.
Now Cartridge SAVE is
holding presentations in class assemblies and providing lesson plans,
bringing together the themes of recycling and conservation so that
children can understand the contribution we can each make towards
protecting the environment.Says Jonathan Clark, Managing Director of
Cartridge SAVE: “The story of orphan elephants really helps to bring to
life the importance of environmental conservation for primary school
children. As a socially responsible company, we’re keen to explain to
children how we can all do our bit to help protect the environment.
“For us, it’s about encouraging cartridge recycling and using the
revenue from that to help support The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
For primary school children, it could be helping to recycle at home or
walking to school more often, instead of using the car.”Having launched
the scheme initially in the North West, Cartridge SAVE is now offering
the educational resources on a national scale to fit within the
Personal, Social Health Education curriculum at Key Stage 2.
