HP Canada Makes Recycling Easy
Company celebrates Earth Day by launching programs committed to the
environmentMISSISSAUGA, ON, April 05 – HP today announced several
environmental programs that make recycling simple and straightforward for
consumers, enterprises and small to mid-size businesses and employees. Among the
newly launched initiatives, HP introduced an Envelope-in-the-Box return and
recycling program for select HP inkjet print cartridges to Canadian consumers.
HP’s Envelope-in-the-Box program makes HP inkjet cartridge recycling even
more convenient for customers. Canadian customers receive a pre-paid postage
envelope in select HP Vivera inkjet cartridges, including HP No 94 Black Print
Cartridge, HP No 96 Large Black Inkjet Print Cartridge, HP No 97 Large
Tri-colour Inkjet Print Cartridge, HP No 99 Photo Inkjet Print Cartridge and HP
100 Gray Photo Inkjet Print Cartridge.
Other empty HP ink cartridges can be sent to HP free of charge for recycling
using HP’s online recycling program, allowing customers to order a pre-paid
envelope sent directly to their home or business. Every HP LaserJet print
cartridge box has always included recycling instructions and a pre-paid shipping
label.
Additionally, Canadians can continue to recycle their hardware conveniently
through HP Canada’s online recycling program (www.hp.ca/recycle).
Since the conception of HP’s Planet Partners recycling programs in the late
1990s, more than 91 million HP LaserJet and inkjet print cartridges have been
returned and recycled worldwide.
Small and mid-size businesses are also encouraged to recycle through
PurchasEdge, a rewards program allowing customers to earn points towards free HP
products and services for purchases of HP hardware, LaserJet and inkjet supplies
(enrollment criteria must be met). Beginning this Earth Day, PurchasEdge members
will also earn PurchasEdge points for recycling original HP cartridges through
the HP Planet Partners program.
“Environmental sustainability is a key element of HP’s global environmental
citizenship, and it is imperative for long-term success,” said Ralph McMillen,
vice president of Environmental Programs, HP Canada. “Canadians already have
sophisticated non-technology recycling habits, and we are thrilled that
Canadians can now recycle electronic products just as effortlessly through these
new HP programs.”
HP Canada employees are also celebrating Earth Day. Offices across the
country are taking part in community clean-up events in nearby green spaces.
Earth Day is also a chance for HP Canada employees to recycle their personal
electronics products through its Employee Recycling and Take-Back program.
In 2004, HP recycled more than 120 million pounds of used computer hardware
and print cartridges globally, bringing HP’s cumulative total since 1987 to 616
million pounds – more than halfway towards meeting the company-wide goal to
recycle 1 billion pounds by 2007.
HP’s Planet Partners return and recycling service (www.hp.ca/recycle)
provides consumers and businesses around the world with access to a variety of
hardware and print cartridge product disposal options, including recycling and
trade-in. HP’s Planet Partners return and recycling service accepts any brand of
computer-related hardware, such as desktop PCs, notebooks, monitors, ink and
laser printers, PDAs and general networking equipment, as well as HP inkjet and
LaserJet print cartridges.

been ranked No. 1 in corporate social responsibility, IT Sector, by the Globe
and Mail’s Report on Business Magazine. HP was the only PC/peripheral company
named among the top 100 most sustainable corporations at the World Economic
Forum in Davos, Switzerland in January 2005. HP is also the proud recipient of
the Ceres-ACCA North American Award for Sustainability Reporting.
