HP unveils new ink-based printing technology
Offers industry’s most complete set of options for enterprise and small and mid-size customers
Products using this technology would redefine business printing with better printing speeds, operating costs and reliability.HEWLETT-PACKARD has unveiled an ink-based printing technology, the HP Edgeline, specifically designed to handle high-volume workloads of businesses.According to HP’s internal research, high-volume office printing, industrial printing and retail printing solutions will represent an estimated $30 billion-plus market opportunity by 2009.Explaining the features of Edgeline technology, the HP Imaging and Printing Group Executive Vice-President, Vyomesh Joshi, told a group of visiting presspersons in San Francisco recently, that this spring, HP would unveil the patented technology in the first device that combined the benefits of the ink and laser.Products using this technology would redefine business printing with better printing speeds, operating costs and reliability. At the same time, the text and graphics would be of “excellent print quality” and this was made possible partly with the use of specially formulated HP Vivera inks.The technology used page-wide print heads to distribute ink rapidly and precisely in one pass.”With the Edgeline announcement from HP, we believe that the promise of inkjet for wide deployment in the higher end of the workgroup is close to being realised,” said Charlie Corr, group director, InfoTrends.Multifunction printers
At the `product and solution exposition’ at San Francisco, HP announced its largest-ever rollout of multifunction printers, aimed at replacing copiers in business of all sizes. “HP’s new multifunction printer lineup adds to the laserJet portfolio and offers the industry’s most complete set of options for both enterprise and small and mid-size customers,” said Bruce W. Dahlgren, senior vice president, Worldwide Enterprise Sales, HP Imaging and Printing Group.Mr. Dahlgren, who moved to HP a few months earlier, said his comments related to markets outside of the U.S. in compliance with legal requirements after he switched companies. Through mid-January 2007, he will focus exclusively on projects and customers in Europe, West Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Asia-pacific.Of the new models (details at http://www.hp.com) , the HP LaserJet M3035/M3027 deliver 35 and 27 pages per minute, respectively, with exceptional output and a convenient stapler.The printers include a HP Easy Select control panel, an intuitive touch-screen that visually walks users through procedures and assists with setup and trouble shooting. The HP LaserJet M4345 MFP series offers printing, copying, optional faxing and advanced digital sending with paper handling, finishing and the HP Easy Select control panel. Another new product from the stable, the HP LaserJet M5035 MFP series, HP says, is the industry’s fastest desktop wide-format MFP. Coupled with the M 5025 MFP series, it provides cost-effective wide format printing and copying, faxing and stapling options and delivers 35 and 25 pages per minute respectively.The printers will be available in India from the first week of November.
