Imaging Supplies Coalition Presents Significant Contribution Award to the Government of Paraguay

The Imaging Supplies Coalition For International Intellectual Property Protection (ISC) awarded The Government of Paraguay a Significant Contribution Award for their efforts in battling counterfeiting in the Imaging Supplies Industry. The award was presented at the Coalition’s tenth anniversary Conference on Counterfeiting and Fraud held at the Aladdin Resort & Casino on the Las Vegas strip.

The Award recognizes the government for their support and assistance in enforcing intellectual property laws in Paraguay. The award was presented to His Excellency, James Spalding, Ambassador to the United States, and Dr. Nelson Mora, Attorney General of Paraguay.

In early 2002, the ISC and its members began working with representatives of the Government of Paraguay. The Paraguayan Government is engaged in a battle against counterfeiting of all types of products and has participated in the many ISC raids, seizures, and criminal prosecution. Since the efforts began, over 200,000 counterfeit imaging supplies representing multiple brand owners have been removed from commerce. The retail value of these seized products is in excess of $6,000,000 (US).

In presenting the award, ISC President & CEO Bill Duffy said, “In our ten-year history as a Coalition, we have only given [this] recognition twice, both [times] to US Government Agencies, the US Customs Port of Miami and the Federal Trade Commission Bureau of Enforcement. Today we are awarding our first ever Significant Contribution Award outside the US to the Government of Paraguay, for their outstanding efforts in working with the ISC, our members, and business partners, in combating this illegal activity."

Accepting the award on behalf of his Government, Ambassador Spalding said, “The Government of Paraguay is committed to protecting intellectual property rights, ridding our country of these counterfeit goods and prosecuting those who violate our laws. To achieve this, private sector participation is fundamental, as the case study on Paraguay presented demonstrates. Working together, much can be accomplished and we look forward to continuing this excellent relationship.”

The Imaging Supplies Coalition for International Intellectual Property Protection, Inc., is a non-profit association of imaging supplies Original Equipment Manufacturers. Coalition members are Brother International Corp., Canon U.S.A., Inc, Epson America Inc., Lexmark International, Inc., Oki Data Corporation, Sharp Electronics Corporation, and Xerox Corporation
