    INDIA’S Printer Sales Grew By 43%
    printers have strengthen their grip on the Indian market.
    January  2006:Overall, the sales of DMP grew by 63 per cent in the businesses segment and by 26 per cent in the households. Sales to smaller establishments grew by 176 per cent, to the medium enterprises by 91 per cent, however sales declined by 40 per cent to the large enterprises. Overall consumption of Inkjet printers grew by 13 per cent; in the business segment it grew by 31 per cent, however it remained stagnant in the households. Laser printers recorded a growth of 159 per cent due to increased consumption across all verticals. Sales of Laser printer grew by 102 per cent in large establishments, by 249 per cent in medium enterprises and by 159 per cent in smaller enterprises where consumption grew 121 per cent. The growth projection for FY 2005-06 for overall printer sales is 39 per cent; sales are expected to cross 16.3 lakh (1.63 million) units.
    The sales growth in smaller towns and cities continued undiminished in the first-half of fiscal 2005-06. Together Class B and C cities accounted for 70 per cent of total PC sales, registering a growth of over 44 per cent in absolute terms, the proportion increased from 58 per cent in the first-half, last fiscal. Consumption of Notebooks in the Businesses segment, in smaller towns, grew by a whopping 192 per cent accounting for 37 per cent of the total market, up from 27 per cent in H1/2004-05. Sales of Servers recorded a growth of 110 per cent in Class C cities and 87 per cent in Class B cities, pulling-up the overall sales by 56 per cent. Similarly in the Printers market, Class C towns accounted for 62 per cent of the Dot-matrix market growing 30 per cent; in the case of Inkjets, Class C accounted for 56 per cent of the market growing 11 per cent, while in the case of Laser printers, Class C accounted for 45 per cent of the consumption with a growth of 130 per cent.
