Inkjet Continues to Dominate U.S. Media Supplies Market.
January  2006 – InfoTrends released its U.S. media supplies forecasts for single-function and multifunctional copiers, direct-to-press equipment, duplicators, facsimile machines, typewriters, and impact, inkjet, laser and thermal transfer printers.
    Key findings include:
      * U.S. hardware market: According to the forecast, inkjet technology accounts for over half of all imaging equipment that is currently in use and, by 2009, this technology will account for over 70% of products in the installed base. Inkjet and toner-based devices are cannibalizing the installed base of the six remaining “Other” print technologies, namely thermal transfer, direct thermal, impact printing, duplicators, typewriters, and direct-to-press equipment.
        * U.S. media market revenues: Total revenues are expected to achieve a CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of 4.3% between 2004 and 2009. Cut-size revenues accounted for 85% of the business paper market in 2004, and this percentage is expected to rise to 88% by 2009.
        * Media pages market: Cut-size pages will continue to dominate the market, accounting for 90% of the market by 2009. Pages imaged on color devices are also expected to grow. Color pages accounted for approximately 13% of all pages during 2004, and this percentage is expected to reach 37% by 2009.
        * Media prints market: Color prints will generate the highest growth, with single-function and multifunctional color laser printers experiencing 53.7% and 49.3% growth rates, respectively. In 2004, color devices generated 1 out of every 10 prints. By 2009, they will produce 1 out of every 3 prints.
        * Media tons market: Cut-size tons accounted for 86% of the business paper market in 2004, and this percentage is expected to increase to 90% by 2009. The rapidly-growing installed base of multifunctional equipment is driving an increasing demand for papers
