Kodak, IBM to Develop Image Sensors
ROCHESTER, N.Y.Eastman Kodak Co. on Thursday said it is partnering with computer maker International Business Machines Corp. to develop and make image sensors for mass-market consumer products such as digital and mobile-phone cameras.
Kodak, a leading maker of cameras, said the deal will take advantage of Kodak's portfolio of image sensor technology and IBM's expertise with complementary metal oxide chip manufacturing to create a new line of imaging components.
The image sensors will be ideal for the digital camera and camera phone markets – the two fastest growing imaging segments – because of their design simplification and low power usage, Kodak said.
The companies did not disclose terms of the deal.
