Konica Minolta ready to fill the gap in color laser printer line

Konica Minolta Is giving its resellers a complete line of solutions to offer by adding a mid-range printer to its color laser family.

According to Mitch Tousinau, senior manager of product marketing at Konica Minolta, the company had a gap in its color laser product line.

"Our customers were looking for something with a higher speed than our 4 ppm color output found in our magicolor 2300 series for US $399, but at a lower cost than $1,799 for our 26 ppm magicolor 3300," Tousinau said.

Priced at US $999, the 5430 DL offers 21 ppm print speeds in both color and black and white, making it the company's fastest magicolor laser printer at this price tag. The new printer offers three resolution settings topping up at 2400 x 600 dpi resolution.

The magicolor 5430 DL supports Windows Server 2003, XP, 2000, NT4, Me, 98SE, as well as Macintosh OSX version 10.2 and higher.

"We think that the resellers are really going to be excited in finally having something that they can take to the Mac side of the house that's a very aggressively priced product," said Gary Davidson, channel marketing manager at Konica Minolta.

The 5430 DL includes built-in 10/100BaseTX Ethernet, USB 2.0 interfaces, and a 250-sheet multipurpose input cassette that supports paper sizes up to 8.5-inch x 11-inch. Two additional 500-sheet input cassettes can be added to the device.

Unpacking the latest laser printer has been made more than easy and marks its first printer to come packaged with all consumables already installed in the box. Once the printer is out of the box, Auto-detect installation software automatically finds the printer on the network and steps users through the basic configuration options.

An all-in-one, intelligent toner cartridges combine the toner and OPC drum into one slide-in cartridge, giving users fewer supplies to store and replace.

"For resellers handling this product, it's really a general SMB product and basically any vertical the resellers are approaching right now because of its speed, low cost, high quality and small footprint," Davidson said. "All of those things fit into a variety of different vertical solutions whether it's real estate, accounting or healthcare."

By the end of this week the 5430 DL will make its way to Konica Minolta's distribution partners Ingram Micro and EMJ.
