KONICA MINOLTA BUSINESS SOLUTIONS U.S.A. MAKES E-MAILING FROM DIGITAL PRINTER/COPIER SIMPLE WITH NEW PRINT CONTROLLER SYSTEM SOFTWARE

New Pi4700e print controller system software:

  • Uses true LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) support to simplify scan to e-mail
  • Supports Scan To hard disk drive (HDD) with new network TWAIN driver
  • Free Phase 2 updates available for existing Pi4700e customers

To eliminate the headaches associated with scanning via e-mail from the Minolta DiALTA Di470 printer/copier, Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. has updated its print controller system software for the Pi4700e controller. The Pi4700e is an embedded print/scan controller that allows Di470 users to print and scan from connected workstations at up to 47 pages per minute. Phase 2 of this software contains true LDAP support to simplify acquisition of e- mail addresses and expands scanning options with new Scan to Hard Disk Drive capabilities. These new features are free of charge with the purchase of a Pi4700e print controller and existing Pi4700e customers may be upgraded for free.

Scan to e-mail Made Simple: LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) is an internet protocol that e-mail programs use to look up contact information from an e-mail server. Having LDAP support eliminates the need to input entire e-mail addresses in order to use the scan to e-mail function on the Di470. Instead, users need only input a few letters of the name or address of the e-mail recipient and hit “Start Search.” The controller then starts a real-time search of the LDAP-enabled e-mail server for matches. Because it is a real time search, search results will reflect all additions and deletions to the e-mail server.

Without LDAP support, users must manually input the e-mail address for each scan to e-mail job, or network administrators must program the e-mail address into a one-touch button. Both methods can be time-consuming and frustrating. In addition, network administrators must manually add or delete e-mail information from a one-touch button when changes occur on the e-mail server.

“People have embraced scan to e-mail for its simplicity and speed,” says Michael Fego, product marketing manager – High Volume monochrome Systems for Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. “By offering true LDAP support with the Pi4700e, we have made scan to e-mail as simple and fast as sending e-mails from the desktop. Eliminating all the frustration at having to remember and manually input e- mail addresses and the hassles of having to update one-touch buttons will certainly encourage more people to use this highly productive tool.”

Scan to HDD with Network TWAIN: Phase 2 of the Pi4700e system software also offers a new way to save scanned images – on the print controller’s hard disk drive. Scans may be saved in TIFF or PDF file formats on the print controller’s hard disk drive. Users retrieve the scanned document via Adobe Acrobat Reader or an imaging program such as Microsoft Imaging for Windows using the new Pi4700e TWAIN driver. Once retrieved from the hard disk drive, the user can save or forward the scanned files as needed.
